GO GERONIMO is project that represents a community solving its transportation needs through the generosity, trust and goodwill of its own people. Goodwill is one natural resource that actually increases the more it is used. We hope our local transportation efforts will help inspire other communities to put the PUBLIC back in public transportation.

GO GERONIMO was founded in 1996 in Marin County, California. It grew out of the San Geronimo Valley Healthy Start Collaborative, and has become an official program of the San Geronimo Valley Cultural Center. GO GERONIMO was created by volunteers after a Healthy Start survey found that our community's most pressing need was to develop better transportation options for our people and their guests.

Our mission is to promote affordable, multi-modal transportation alternatives and to energize the public in public transportation.

When founded in 1996, GO GERONIMO featured the following programs. Now in the year 2008, the Reg and the Skedge have essentially been replaced by the Stagecoach. We leave this information on the website, however, to show other communities how we created an innovative, low-cost ridesharing program.

• The Reg -- a flexible ridesharing service combining the ease of hitchhiking with the safety of a registered membership program.
• The Skedge -- a centralized database where drivers and passengers can find each other easily, for one-time or on-going rides.
• Bicycling programs -- for everyday transportation and recreation.
• The Stagecoach -- a West Marin pilot program shuttle service in effect now.
